Colloidal plasmonic nanostructures

The Analytical and Surface Chemistry (ASC) program of the Division of Chemistry will support the research program of Prof. Phillippe Guyot-Sionnest of the University of Chicago. Prof. Guyot-Sionnest's research program focuses on the synthesis of colloidal plasmonic nanostructures with specific optical properties. The research group will fabricate single photon plasmonic sources with short intrinsic radiative lifetimes and nanostructures with giant optical non-linearity. The study will integrate nanomaterial synthesis with plasmon spectroscopy thus provide an excellent educational opportunity for trainees desiring work at the interface of nanomaterials chemistry and physics. The plasmonic nanostructures will strongly impact the field of electronic signal processing by using photons rather than electrons to rapidly transfer and process digital information.
