项目摘要

ニ〇ニニ年度に発表した研究業績の概要と、本研究課題における位置づけ、今後の展開について記す。ニ〇ニニ年十二月に『日本フランス語フランス文学会関東支部論集』に発表した論考「『失われた時を求めて』の登場人物の庭園愛好――庭とともに人生を歩むシャルリュス男爵――」では、小説の主要登場人物の一人であるシャルリュス男爵にとって、庭とは絵画や建築とならぶ芸術性を備えた場であるだけでなく、通常は何としても隠したいと考える性的嗜好が解放される場でもあることを示した。またそのような庭は、生垣や壁のような囲いに区切られ、一見すると外界から遮断された閉じた空間として立ち現われるが、その囲いには隙間があり、そこから視線や情報が貫通してしまう場でもある点、さらに、庭は、日常生活では抑制されている感情や想像力が表出する場でもある点を明らかにすることができた。本論文執筆のための調査の段階において、本研究課題の観点から、ヴェルサイユ庭園などのフランス庭園内の彫刻や碑文などで、西洋古典文学の作品への暗示が行わていることに強く関心を持った。特に、ラテン文学の研究家であり、十九世紀末から二十世紀初頭にかけてヴェルサイユ宮殿美術館長であったピエール・ド・ノラックの著作を通して、この時代の文芸において、ヴェルサイユ宮殿や庭園は、十七世紀の古典主義文学に結びつけられるだけでなく、西洋古典文学の受容の場でもあることがわかった。プルーストにおける、ヴェルサイユを中継点とした西洋古典文学の受容については、ニ〇ニ三年度中に学術論文として発表予定である。さらに、プルーストにおける西洋古典文学全般の受容に関する調査を進めている。その成果の一部として、『失われた時を求めて』におけるウェルギリウスの『農耕詩』の受容に関する研究論文を準備している。
