项目摘要

2022年度はこれまでに引き続き「口絵ポータルデータベース」の拡充を行ったほか、明治期における春陽堂書店の出版活動にかんする成果報告を行った。あわせて、「明治大正昭和挿絵文化展」にかんする調査へも着手した。その成果・内容は、以下のとおり。１．「口絵ポータルデータベース」のメタデータ検証作業を行った。データが十分に入力されていない画像も散見されるため、次年度以降も引き続き入力作業を行うこととする。２．前年度より取り組んでいた、春陽堂書店の出版活動にかんする調査成果を口頭発表し、その後、論文として発表した。具体的には、近代木版口絵文化の誕生から流行の兆しをみせた明治22年から明治29年までに注目し、同書店から発行された書籍タイトル数と木版口絵付書籍のタイトル数を整理したうえで、木版口絵付書籍が全体に占める割合を明らかにした。書籍タイトル数は各年45～60点程度で安定しており、同書店の手堅い出版商法が窺われる一方、木版口絵付書籍は年を追うごとに急激な増加傾向をみせていることから、当時の出版界の流行に乗る形で、あるいはその流行を牽引する形で、同書店も木版口絵摺刷の体制を整えていったのではないかと考察した。あわせて、同書店から発行された『小説挿画集』（明治31）と『江戸錦』（明治44）の掲載作品や、両画集の出版年などを総合的に分析し、以上2種類の近代木版口絵画集は、木版印刷技術の向上へ意欲的に取り組んでいた初代社長・和田篤太郎の仕事上の成果として発行されたものではないかという考察も行った。３．昭和15年に開催された「明治大正昭和挿絵文化展」にかんする調査に着手した。図録をもとに出品物の傾向や講演記録を分析し、文章化する段階まで至っているので、2023年度中に論文として成果発表できるよう引き続き準備を進めていく。
