项目摘要

2019年度も前年度に引き続き、以下の二つの軸をもって研究活動に取り組んだ。１．近代木版口絵のデジタル研究環境基盤整備前年度から調査対象としている二つのコレクションについて資料のデジタル化を実施し、立命館大学アート・リサーチセンターのデータベースシステムを通じてデジタル画像を公開した。2019年度はデータベースの拡充に取り組むとともに、メタデータの入力に注力したことによってデータベース上での資料検索が容易になった点がとりわけ大きな成果である。いくつかの課題は残されているものの、これまでの書物アーカイブとは異なる視点をもったデータベースの立ち上げに成功し、近代木版口絵のデジタル研究環境基盤整備の第一段階が済んだことによって、また新たな研究の可能性が広がったといえよう。２．１を活用した近代木版口絵研究1の研究活動によって得られた資源を活用し、2018年度内に十分な調査を行うことができなかった画集・『江戸錦』について、その資料的意義を考察した。同画集は1911年（明治44）に春陽堂から出版されたもので、1898年（明治31）出版の『小説挿画集』と同じく、同社から出版された文学書の木版口絵を集め、画集として再編したものである。同時代においては輸出用の木版画集などが多数出版されていたことからも、同画集にも同様の狙いがあったのではないかと推察している。そのほかにも、2については、様々なデータベースなどを活用し、作家や画家による口絵に関するコメントを収集するなどの研究活動を行った。1については研究の方法論として、2としては近代木版口絵に関する実践研究として、それぞれ関連の学会やセミナーで積極的に成果報告を行った。
