本研究は近世城下町を基盤として形成された城下町都市を対象として、「文化的景観の創造性」の視点から近代化以降に積み重ねられてきた都市づくりの過程を文脈的に読み取り、それを今後の都市づくりの計画に応用しようとするものである。同時代的な都市社会や市民生活との関係から空間利用やその議論を分析し、近代都市づくりの計画技術とその思想を解き明かして意味づけ、それらを相対的に積み重ねる文脈化という分析の方法とそれによる計画論を構築することを目的としている。その目的を達成するために以下の諸点について研究を進めた。第一に濠の埋め立てと保存における議論からみた文化的景観の創造性の観点から、濠の埋め立てに関する議論のあった静岡と熊本を対象として、濠の埋め立ての契機や目的、その賛否の議論とその結果などについて検討し、その上で城址の史跡や風致保全を通した近代化に伴う市民社会の成熟過程について分析を進めた。第二に近代の天守の保存や利用からみた文化的景観の創造性の観点から、姫路などの天守を対象として、一般市民に天守の内部を公開する社会背景や、保存修理がされた契機やその過程と都市社会との関係について分析を行った。第三に公園設計における風致の保存と破壊からみた文化的景観の創造性の観点から、本多静六が設計した会津若松城址の公園設計を対象として、その計画技術と計画思想を、当時の社会背景や市民生活との関係、城址の風致との関係、事業化との関係などについて検討した。

This study focuses on the development of modern urban landscape, the creation of cultural landscape, and the development of urban planning in the future. Third, park design is concerned with the preservation of the atmosphere and the cultural landscape, the creativity of the landscape, the design of the park at the Aizu Wakamatsu city site, the planning technology and planning ideas, the social background of the time, the relationship between the people's life, the relationship between the atmosphere of the city site, and the relationship between the cause and the enterprise.
