项目摘要

本年度は、ヒトの集団同士の接触や移住の効果を考慮した上で文化形質（技術・音楽・知識・言語・民話といった、ヒトからヒトへと世代を超えて模倣や教示によって伝達する形質のこと）の系統関係を推定する手法を開発した。この手法は基本的には生物進化の分野で使われてきた系統樹推定の手法を文化形質へと流用したものであるが、地理的な接触によってヒトからヒトへ形質が伝播する効果を考慮できるように系統推定用の統計モデルを拡張した。この手法は文化形質の地理的分布をプロットした地図データを元に解析を行うことを念頭に開発しており、対象となる地図を細かなメッシュに区切って分割し、そのメッシュ間の形質の伝播をネットワークでモデル化する。この際に、地理的に近い集団同士ほど文化形質が伝達しやすい、人口の大きな集団ほど周囲から模倣されやすい、といった仮定を置くことによって現実的な文化形質の伝播とそれによって生じる空間的（地理的）分布をモデル化した。この手法の数学的な正当性を確認した上で実装を行い、シミュレーションで正確性を確認した。さらに日本語方言の研究者との共同研究を行い、同研究者が先行研究を調査することで作成した日本語アクセントの地図データに基づいて、各地の方言の系統関係を推定し、さらにアクセント型の間の推移率を推定を試みた。またイギリス英語の言語地図のデータベースの調査を行い、主に語彙のデータに対して本モデルを適用する検討を行った。現在のところ、本手法における理論の枠組みは多くの実証データを取り込むことができず、したがって日本語アクセントの系統に関しても精度の高い推定ができていない状態にある。本手法は未だ改善点が多くあると見られ、今後の研究では多くのデータを取り込めるようなモデルの拡張を行う予定である。また言語以外のヒトの文化形質に対して本手法を適応して、言語学に留まらない応用を行うことも必要である。
