本年度は、英語の好韻律性に関して言語と音楽の接点という観点から文献を読み進めるとともに、これまで国内外の学会で査読を経て口頭発表してきた内容を書籍として刊行するために、共時的音声変異の観察・分析を好韻律性の議論に発展させた。具体的には、現代イギリス英語において第１強勢の変異が観察されるという報告を検証する試みを出発点として、本研究では、従来の変異研究が専ら研究の対象としてきた分節音だけでなく、超分節音的特徴についても「変異は決してでたらめではなく構造をなす」ことを明らかにし、変異の背後にある言語内的要因を指摘した上で、英語の語強勢の揺れに着目すると、その背後にはリズムについての一般的な原則が見えてくることを実例とともに示した。リズム的に好ましい型、すなわち好韻律性を論じるために韻律グリッドという概念を用い、一方、2000年前後からリズム研究のために提案されてきたいくつかの指標のうち、nPVI（標準化配列間変動指標）を援用して、言語と音楽の接点という観点から好韻律性についての議論を展開した。テクスト・セティングの分析を通して、英語母語話者の音声に関する無意識の知識を明らかにすることが可能で、英語では音楽的に強いビートの位置に強勢のある音節をあてるという、先行研究で指摘されてきた制約について、一見例外と思われる事例を詳細に検証し、そのうちの一定数は韻律シフトで説明可能であることを提案し、真の例外と区別した。
