本研究では、①文科省が掲げる「音声を中心とした」小学校早期英語教育への貢献、②音声習得研究の基礎文献としての貢献、③日英語バイリンガル環境にある国内外の家庭への貢献を目指すことが主な目的であった。具体的には、日英語バイリンガルにおける発音の多様性に着目し、L２（英語）の学習開始時期が異なる英国在住日英語バイリンガルの音声習得のうち、特に発話リズム（母音長）と母音音質（フォルマント値）の習得状況を音響音声学的に分析し「英語・日本語らしさ」の定量化を試みる計画であった。その上で本年度は、以下の２点に重点を置くことを当初の研究計画としていた。1.(1). 本研究の主旨にあった音声刺激リスト・プロトコルの準備、(2). 日本及び英国にて、本研究全体の基盤となる音声データ収集の実施、(3). データファイルの整形及び音声データの書き起こし2.【分析１：母音の量的調査（リズム調査）】を進め、リズム指標であるnPVI (Low et al. 2000) （発話速度を標準化した、隣接する母音長の差を表す指標）を用い、日英語バイリンガルの日本語・英語発話それぞれの「英語／日本語らしさ」の定量化を試みるしかしながら、事前に予測し得なかった事由（音声刺激データの大幅な再設計の必要性、日本における録音作業における想定外の問題の発生、研究代表者の体調不良とその後の手術）により、当初の計画への変更を余儀なくされることとなった。結果、本年度は1の(1) 音声刺激リストの設計・作成（英語63文＋129文、日本語33文＋70文）、プロトコル設計を含めたデータ収集準備、(2) データ収集作業の実施（日英国で約３０名分）、(3) ファイル整形・音声データの書き起こしを行った。また2【分析１】の一部を行った。
