项目摘要

本課題の目的は，日本語を母語とする英語学習者が文と文をつなげて文章を理解するプロセスを，文の因果的・意味的な関連に着目し，読解中の視線計測データの解析を通して解明することである。研究期間2年目である前年度は，日本語母語英語学習者が短い文章を読解した際の視線計測データを分析し，文間の関連度に関する指標を含む読みやすさの指標が，読解中の処理負荷の予測において伝統的な読みやすさの指標よりも優れるケースがあることを明らかにした。この結果を受け，研究期間3年目である本年度は以下の2つの研究を行った。1つ目の研究では，研究期間2年目のデータを再分析し，包括的な読みやすさの指標ではなく，文章の個別の言語的特徴と視線計測データの関わりを検討することで，単語や文の特徴と比較した文間の関連度の重要度を明らかにすることを試みた。分析の結果，読み飛ばしの頻度やサッケードの距離では文の意味的な関連度がデータの予測に有用な要因となったが，読み戻りの頻度などのデータでは文の関連度は予測に有用な要因とはならず，代わって単語や文の統語構造に関する特徴が予測に有用な要因であった。2つ目の研究では，これまでのデータが短い文章の読解で得られたものであった点を克服するため，公開されている英文読解中の視線計測データ（オランダ語母語話者が英語の小説を読解したもの）を用いて同様の分析を行った。また，より解釈しやすい視線計測データの指標として，総注視回数と総注視時間を統合したデータを分析対象とした。分析の結果，文の関連度に関する特徴ではなく，複数語単位の頻度など主に語彙に関する特徴がこれらのデータを予測する有用な要因であった。これらの研究結果は，文間のつながりは学習者の英文読解プロセスの説明に一定の役割を果たすものの，ある程度の長さがある文章の読解プロセスにおいては語彙の特徴がより重要な要因となる可能性を示すものである。

The purpose of this project is to understand the relationship between the text and the causal meaning of the text for Japanese native speakers and English learners, and to understand the analysis of the visual measurement in the solution. During the study period of 2 years, Japanese native English learners analyzed the inter-text correlation index, including the inter-text correlation index, and the inter-text correlation index. The analysis results show that the characteristics related to the degree of relevance of the text, the frequency of the plural words, the characteristics related to the main words, and the important factors related to the prediction of the text. The results of this study indicate that the characteristics of words in English are important factors and possible indicators for the learners 'English comprehension.
