新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大状況等の外部要因の他、主たる調査対象として考えていた会津の漆器産地の関係団体からの調査にたいする協力が十分に得られなかったことから、調査の対象および方法にかんして再検討を余儀なくされる一方、研究の理論的フレームワークについても若干の追加を行うことにした。研究のフレームワークに関しては、従前の産地間の比較および競争と協調にフォーカスするという視点を維持しつつ、それらに影響を及ぼす要因として、産地内の歴史的、社会的、地理的要因の他、主要プレーヤー（生産者および商業者）の産地へのコミットメントと産地の事業システムや産地間関係との関わりを新たな分析枠組みとして追加することにした。調査対象については、会津に代えて近年出荷額において日本最大の産地になったとも言われる越前を加え、越前、石川、海南の３つの産地とすることにした。調査方法については、質問票調査と現地の聞き取り調査についての準備をさらに進めた。具体的には、上述の分析枠組みの追加を反映するかたちで質問票調査の加筆、修正をおこなうとともに、越前については産地内の業界団体及び関係機関に調査にたいする協力、後援依頼をおこない了解を得るとともに、予備的な聞きとり調査をおこなった。以上、いくつかの変更、追加をおこない、ようやく調査を始めることができた。しかしながら、現時点においても本研究課題の遂行にとってもっとも重要な現地の主要プレーヤーにたいする聞き取り調査を中心とした本格的なフィールドワークをおこなうに至っておらず、具体的な研究実績はあがっていない。
