项目摘要

感化院は、感化法（1900年）に定められ、不良行為をなす児童を主たる対象としながら被虐待や障害等を背景にもつ児童をも対象としてきた入所施設である。感化院は、少年教護法（1933年）の施行により少年教護院となり、今日では、児童福祉法に定められた児童自立支援施設として設置・運営されている。本研究では、1920年代後半から少年教護法の施行を経て総力戦体制への参加が求められた1940年代はじめまでの時期を対象に、感化院・少年教護院の実践とそれを主導した理論・思想を検討し、その展開過程を明らかにすることを目的としている。その際、これらの実践と理論・思想を仮説的に、1)家庭学校長留岡幸助が推進したコロニーシステムにもとづく実践、2)兵庫県立土山学園長早崎春香や池田千年等精神医学的知見を導入した実践、3)国立武蔵野学院によって目指された調査研究に基づく実践と院長菊池俊諦による児童の権利思想、という系譜で捉えている。今年度（繰越した年度分を含む）は、コロニーシステムにもとづく実践として、少年教護法制下における家庭学校の教育の実態について、少年寮・社名淵分校・農民道場済美館の検討を通して明らかにした。また、国立武蔵野学院が果たした役割、さらには国立武蔵野学院職員を経て感化院・少年教護院の院長となった人物の思想について明らかにした。精神医学的知見を取り入れた入所の際の鑑別の試みについては、東京都立萩山実務学校所蔵資料の調査によって基礎資料の発掘・整理を行うとともに、全国の感化院（少年教護院）院長会議の議事録の分析をすすめている。
