発達心理学は人間の一生涯における成長や発達過程を研究する学問であり，子どもの発達メカニズムの解明は最も重要な目的の1つである．この学問では，絵本読み聞かせは子どもの認知発達に重要な役割を果たすとされ，多数の研究が行われている．子どもは各自の発達段階に応じた反応を示すため，研究者が目的とする反応の効率的な収集には，各子どもの発達段階に適した実験設定が必要となる．しかし，従来の発達段階の判定手法は，被験者・研究者の負担が大きく，大規模な実施が困難である．これに対して本研究では，映像と発達の順序とを対応付け，取得した映像に含まれない反応についても獲得の有無を推定することで，発達段階の判定における被験者・研究者双方の時間と労力を削減するシステムを提案し，体系的な発達心理学研究基盤を構築することを目指した．2021年度は，絵本読み聞かせ場面を収録した映像に対する観察を用いて子どもの発達段階を推定するシステムを構築した．子どもの発達の順序が既知の場合，ある反応が観察されれば，順序がその反応よりも前の反応を通過していると推定できる．このことを利用し，本研究では，絵本の読み聞かせ場面で観察された反応を用いて，その反応よりも順序が前の反応は通過済，後の反応は未通過であるとして発達段階を推定した．3人の被験者に対してこの手法を適用した結果，80%以上の正答率で発達段階を推定できた．また，映像観察の作業時間を短縮するために，映像中の指さしの自動検出を行った．指さしの検出において，再現率は約89%と高かったものの，適合率は50%程度にとどまっていた．しかし，この手法によって，要観察場面の秒数を読み聞かせ約2回分程度削減できた．さらに，検出された場面のみを用いた発達段階推定でも，正答率は依然として80%以上であった．これらの結果から，本研究の提案手法が，発達段階の判定における負担軽減に有効であることが示された．
