平成11年度は,昨年度の,店舗単位でのイメージ分析の街路単位への拡張を行った.まず特徴的な街並みを含むように,東京を中心に実際の11街路19区間について調査を行い,実際の街並み写真及び地図等の基礎資料収集を行った.街路の景観特性は、店舗のパターン認識の集積であると捉え,店舗のイメージから,街路のイメージを説明する論理的枠組みの整理を行った.即ち,店舗パタンにはイメージの代表値があり,その代表値を昨年度の成果である店舗パタンごとに店舗イメージ平面の重心として算出し,これに基づき,実際の街並みのイメージ指標を,店舗軒数による重み付き平均及び分散を,街並みイメージ計量手法として提案した.これに基づき調査した19区間について,街並みイメージの計量を行った.一方,昨年度の店舗と同様,街並みイメージを,被験者に分類試験,SD法心理実験を行うことを通じて,街並みイメージの実験的把握を行った.その結果と,街並みイメージを計量手法による結果を比較検討を行ったところ,極めて良好に,双方が一致することが確認された.これは即ち,提案した街並みイメージ計量手法の有効性の証左であると考えられる.このことにより,概ね街路単位においても,店舗同様,店外論理記号猥雑さを演出し,店外直感記号がそれを補完している点,店外直感記号及び店内直感記号の多さが親近感を演出している点,論理記号の多さが疎外感を演出していること等が明らかとなった.
