報告者は、9世紀から10世紀にかけてのアッバース朝期に提出されたアラビア語諸史料の分析を行っている。アッバース朝ではハディース編纂作業が完了しイスラム法が発展していった。ハディースとは預言者ムハンマドの言行録であり、コーランに次ぐイスラム法の法源である。スンナ派の「スンナ」とは「ムスリムが従うべき預言者ムハンマドの慣行」を意味し、スンナ派の成立とハディースの編纂は不可分のものである。報告者はハディースが民間に浸透する過程で醸成された「ムスリム意識」を解明することを目的として、9-10世紀にハディース編纂に関わり政権とも近い関係にあった作者達の諸作品を比較分析している。比較分析する諸史料の内、中心的な作品は法学者タバリーによる年代記である。タバリーの年代記は9世紀後半から10世紀初頭にかけて執筆された。預言者ムハンマドから始まるムスリムの歴史を旧約的世界観の中に位置づけた初の歴史書であり、「イスラム史上初の年代記」と評される。19世紀以来政治事件史の典拠とされ、近年では史料論の対象とされてきた。しかしタバリーの年代記研究では、比較研究が全く為されていない。これは19世紀以来、アラビア語諸史料は表層的な記述方法によって系譜書や年代記の通史、地方史などと分類されており、タバリーが情報源として用い、参照した諸史料が年代記以外の系譜書や地方史に分類されている為と考えられる。報告者は従来の分類によらず、作者達の生きた時代、政権やハディース編纂を行った法学者達との関係、情報源や読者層が共通しているか、という点に着目して比較研究を行っている。2018年度はタバリーが情報源として用いた諸作品の内、タバリーの同時代人のイブン・タイフールによる『バグダードの書』との比較研究を行った。
