京都府私立学校図書館協議会が実施したアンケートの再分析を行い、私立高校図書館について、従来の整理にある学校図書館が分掌として独立しているか否かに加え、情報教育部門を統合した「メディア情報部」の一部となっている第三の形を取り出した。この第三の形をとる学校には、大規模校・大学附属校が多いことを確認した。また、分掌として独立している図書館と、教務部の一部として位置づけられている図書館との間には、図書館に関する指標の上で有意な差が見出されないという知見を得た。これは、学校図書館の活動が、組織の独立の有無にかかわらず、それ以外の要因、たとえば各学校の教育方針や経営方針によって、その活動領域が大きく左右されることの証左であると考えられる。さらに、インタビュー調査の結果、「独立型」図書館の中にも、図書館長が校務運営委員として校内の意思決定過程に深く関与する学校と、図書館長は組織上独立しているが、一係教員のレベルに留まっている学校とがあることがわかった。組織的には独立していなくても、積極的に教員を巻き込むことで活発な図書館経営が可能となっている学校がある一方で、組織上の独立がかえって図書館の孤立化を招いた事例もあった。少子化と財政難が進行する中、限られた資源で最大限の活動を可能とする学校組織形態はいかなるものか、今後さらなる検討が必要である。この研究の過程で、私立高校の経営そのものについて、複数のパターンが見出された。そこで、私立大学についての先行研究を私立高校にも援用する形で、設立時期、母体、公立高校との位置づけ(どのニッチをとるか)、経営戦略などの要素をもとに、類型化の可能性を模索した。
