1.研究目的日本語と英語において言語機能が鑑賞者の思考力に与える影響の差異に着目し、英語活用で思考力が深まる東洋・日本の伝統美術鑑賞の教授・学習をうながす教材・指導法を開発する。2.研究方法(1)英語科教員の協力を得ながら生徒の基本的な英語力および既習範囲を把握した。(2)簡易英語『Basic English』を活用し中学生の実態に応じたワードリストを作成した。(3)東洋・日本の伝統美術作品をジャンル別にリストアップし、画面上の主要モチーフおよび表現特質に関する日本語の概念を(2)のベーシックワードを使い英語に翻訳した。(4)(3)で抽出したワードを使い、米国の中学生向け鑑賞テキスト『Art Talk(second edition)』を参照しながら、三つのカテゴリー別(日本美術史,作品の構成要素,作品の構成原理)ごとに学習指導内容を整理し、テキストを作成した。(5)(4)のテキストを使い、四つの視点「描写・分析・解釈・価値判断」から鑑賞できる授業を構想、大学教員・外国人等の専門家とTTで雪舟の水墨画鑑賞の授業を行うなど多様な学習形態で実践。(6)アンケート・質問紙による調査・第三者による授業分析等を通して、定量的・定性的評価を相互補完的に行い、エビデンスに基づく成果の検証を行った。3.研究成果上記方法にしたがい、分析的かつ明瞭な既習の英語を通して鑑賞することで、生徒の思考力における向上的変容が見られた。ただし一部の英語が苦手な生徒に対しては、スマートボード等ICT活用と併せて英語を使うことでその効果がより大きくなることも分かった。
