国語科の読むことが困難である生徒に、シンキング・ツールを用いた支援を行い、その効果を検証した。国語科スクーリングテストの結果を基に、脳の入力側および出力側に問題がある生徒2名を対象に臨床研究を行った。一斉授業の中でシンキング・ツールを用いることで、対象生徒の個の読みの成立過程を明らかにするとともに、その支援の方法としての有効性と課題について考察した。伝統的な言語文化の教材(おくのほそ道)、説明的な文章教材(「渡り鳥のなぞ」「弥生の絵」)を用いた二つの授業実践を行った結果、読むことの困難な生徒に対し、シンキング・ツールは有効に機能し、読みを成立させた。入力側に課題のある生徒には、特にシンキング・ツールが対話を促し、「読みの交流」が読みの成立に効果的であった。出力側に課題のある生徒には、入力された情報の統合にシンキング・ツールが有効性を示した。国語科の読みにおいて、シンキング・ツールを用いることは、①言葉を「切る・つなぐ」ためのツールとしての効果、②視覚的サポートとしての効果、③活動的サポートとしての効果、の3点が認められる。また、①学ぶ意味や価値の実感の必要性、②基礎言語力の育成につなげる必要性、の2点の課題も見えた。読むことの困難な生徒への支援というと、どうしても個別の支援が考えられがちであるが、この研究は、読むことの困難な生徒のみならず、一般の生徒を含めた魅力ある授業作りの方向性をデザインすることにつながるものとなる。詳細については、『香川大学教育実践総合研究 第30号』に掲載した。
