本年度は尊氏・義詮期の公武関係を中心に研究を行った。従来当該テーマの研究は、公武の訴訟管轄、意思伝達システムなどの制度史的考察が中心であった。近年、公家家督の認定者が義詮期に室町殿に移行することが指摘されているが、治天の君の権限が室町殿に吸収されていくという従来の図式をでるものではない。そこで本研究では公家社会の根幹にかかわる公家所領の没収・安堵、儀式の運営への公武のかかわり方を検証し、公武関係の枠組みを仮説的に示すことをめざした。1. 公家所領の没収・安堵については、観応擾乱にともなう、不参公家の処分、回復の過程に注目した。まず南朝側の北朝貴族に対する厳しい処遇などの影響で、北朝貴族が北朝の治天の君を絶対視しなくなる傾向が見られること、かかる事態に対し、室町殿は旗幟不鮮明な北朝貴族の処分を実行したことを明らかにした。さらに室町殿による処分は、北朝の治天の君に諮られ、没収所領の返付については輪旨が発給されていることを指摘し、室町殿の行動は北朝の治天の君からの権限吸収ではなく、むしろその権威の維持をめざす行動と評価すべきであるとの仮説を示した。2. 公家儀式の研究では、『太平記』末尾部に天皇の朝儀復興の意志と武家の支持によって開催されたと位置づけられている貞治6年中殿御会に注目し、天皇の楽器演奏、実際の開催過程の検討という二点から検討を加えた。その結果、御会が天皇が公式行事で笙を吹く最初の機会であり、朝儀の復活と同時に新しい朝儀の始まりをも意味した重要なイベントであったこと、さらに他の記録史料から御会は発案の段階から室町殿の意志が強くはたらいたことがよみとれた。以上の結果、室町殿は北朝の権威を確立し、その権威を独占することを基本的な方針としていたという、1の仮説を補強する見通しを得た。
