本研究課題は,カナダのブリティッシュ・コロンビア州クィーン・シャーロット諸島で話されるハイダ語スキドゲイト方言の音声資料の整備と形態統語法の記述研究を行なうことを主たる目的とするものである.本年度は,昨年度の成果と問題点をふまえ,以下のような研究を行なった.1.これまでおよそ10年間にわたる現地調査によって得たハイダ語のアナログの音声資料を主にデジタルオーディオテープ(DAT)やCD-Rなどの永年保存に耐えられるようなデジタル媒体に変換する作業を行なった.2.現地調査での缺を補うことを目的として,過去になされたハイダ語の研究資料を蒐集した.3.ハイダ語の言語類型論的特質を考察するために,北アメリカ北西海岸地域に分布する諸言語の資料を蒐集した.4.ハイダ語の形態統語法に関しては,以下の点をとりあげて,考察を行なった.1)類別接頭辞の形態統語上,また音韻上の特徴について考察し,単なる類別という機能だけでなく,かなり具体的な概念を有する要素であることを明らかにした.また,類別接頭辞の中には,名詞起源と考えられるものもあることを示唆した.2)動詞形態法に関わる接辞の承接順序に関して考察を行なった.2年間にわたる研究課題を終えるにあたり,今後の課題も指摘しておかなくてはならない.ハイダ語の全体的な概要は,徐々に得られつつあるものの,しかし,記述の濃淡はどうしても否めない.それは,偏にハイダ語の話者が少なく,かつ,高齢者に限られているという現実に由来するものであるが,そういった事情を補うためにも,過去になされた研究資料の広範な蒐集と深い分析が必要となってくるであろう.また,そういった「危機言語」の復活の一助となるためにも,音声資料の整備と充実は,今後も引き続き行なっていかなくてはならない課題の1つである.
