本研究は,カナダのブリティッシュ・コロンビア州クィーン・シャーロット諸島で話されるハイダ語スキドゲイト方言(以下,ハイダ語とする)の形態統語法の記述とその類型論的特質を考察することが主たる目的である.今年度の実績は,大体,以下のようにまとめられる.1.2005年8月から9月の約1ヶ月の間,上記の地に滞在し,ハイダ語の話者数名の協力を得て,主にテキスト分析をもとに,形態統語法に関する調査を行なった.調査の概要と成果は,以下の通りである.(1)ハイダ語の語類に関わる種々の問題(「形容詞」,名詞と動詞の兼類,動詞の名詞化など)の考察を行なった.(2)統語法の面では,関係節の有する構造,被修飾語との関係,追加の小詞に関わる問題の解明を図った.(3)形態法の面では,述語を形成する様々な接尾辞の機能,それぞれの承接関係などを明らかにするとともに,いわゆる「複統合性」の問題に関する考察を加えた.(4)自由発話によるテキストの更なる蒐集とその分析を行なった.2.アメリカ哲学会所蔵のボアズ(Franz Boas),サピア(Edward Sapir)による20世紀初頭のハイダ語調査資料が今後利活用できるようにそれらの整備を図った.3.北アメリカ北西海岸地域に分布する他の諸言語の研究者と意見交換を行なうことによって,ハイダ語の言語類型論的特質を考察した.4.現地のハイダ語教育関係者と緊密な連絡を取り合い,そこで用いられる教材やカリキュラムについて言語学的観点から検討を行なった.
