社会的論争問題を扱った社会科授業を研究対象とし、授業構造の分析を通じてその授業が内包している教育内容と教育方法の特質を明らかにするのが、本研究の目的である。今年度は、前年度に行った教育方法の分析をふまえ、教育内容の特質及び教育方法との関連を明らかにすることに重点をおいた。教育内容としては、実際の社会で論争を引き起こした社会的問題が対象であるが、大きく分けると、歴史的過程において一応の結論が出ている問題と、現時点において結論を出すことが困難な問題とに分類される。前者の歴史的結論が出ている問題では、論争問題に対して社会がどのように対応し、解決を図ってきたかという「歴史的事象認識型」とでも呼ぶ教育方法がとられることとなる。更にこのタイプは、問題解決過程を子どもに認識させることそのものを目的とする「追体験型」と、問題解決過程を子どもに批判的に検証させる「検証型」とに分けられる。また、後者の現実の社会的論争問題を内容とする授業では、問題状況そのものの理解を目的とする「認識型」と、子ども一人一人に問題解決をさせる「判断型」とに大きく分けられる。これらの授業類型は、教育方法と教育内容との特質に基づいて分類したものであるが、それらの授業の背景には、どのような能力・資質を子どもに育成するのかという教育目的が存在する。教育方法と教育内容の分析を更に深め、教育目的との関連性を明らかにすることで、それぞれの授業が育成をめざしている市民的資質の内実を示すことが可能になると考える。以上、本研究で明らかになったこと及び今後の研究課題を示したが、今回の学習指導要領の改訂により、教科指導や総合的学習の時間などで社会的論争問題を扱う授業が増加すると考えられる。単に子どもの学習活動を活性化させることを主目的にして論争過程を授業に導入するのではなく、どのような能力・資質を育成するのかという明確な教育目的に基づく教育内容と教育方法の設定が重要である。
