報告者は,動機の構成要因と,若年者の職業意識や態度に関する諸研究をもとに,就業動機測定尺度を開発し,その下位構造として4つの側面を抽出した。「自己向上志向」は,困難な課題を達成して自己成長を志す職業に対する積極的な姿勢,「対人志向」は,仕事を通じた人との接触を重視する傾向,「上位志向」は,仕事場面で社会的地位や名声を得ようとする傾向であった。2000年度は,就業動機について概念整理と測定尺度の整備を行うことを主たる検討課題とし,研究をすすめてきた。結果として,他の動機概念との関係において,就業動機の下位側面の特性が説明できること,従来から指摘されている効力感-動機間の関連性が就業動機を用いて確認できたことなどから,就業動機の概念的妥当性が概ね支持されたと考えてよいだろう。また,大学生,女子短大生,男子学生,女子学生など全ての対象者を用いた分析で想定した通りの3因子構造が得られることから、同概念の因子的妥当性も安定したものであるといえよう。その他に,女子短大生を対象とした調査において,自己向上的な就業動機志向が職業未決定に対して抑制的な影響力をもつことが明らかにされ,同概念が進路発達のプロセスにおいても重要な役割を担うことが示された。今後の展開としては,実施の簡便性を考慮し,各下位領域から代表的項目を選出して就業動機尺度の短縮版を作成すること,また同概念を就職課や学生相談センターでの進路選択問題に対する援助や介入でどの様に役立てていくのかについて明らかにしてゆくことが大きな方向性として考えられよう。
