近年わが国では,景気回復や団塊世代の退職により若者層の就職状況は改善の傾向にあるものの若者層のキャリア選択には多くの問題が残されている.本研究は,わが国の若者層が将来の生き方,働き方に対してもつ意識・態度の特徴を明らかにすること,および,若者層のキャリア選択に対する支援について提言を行うことを主たる目的としている.初年度にあたる平成17年度は,若者のキャリア意識やキャリア支援に関する情報収集と質問紙を用いた調査分析により,現代の若者に特徴的なキャリア意識の構造について明らかにした.つづく平成18年度は,前年度に得られた研究成果の発表・公刊,および,大学における少人数制クラスで行うキャリア教育のプログラムを構築,および効果について検討をくわえた.最終年度となる平成20年は,若者のキャリア意識の構造について因果モデル構築し,支援の在り方について提言を行うことを課題とした.具体的には,今の若者に特徴的なフリーター志向とキャリア意識の3側面に焦点をあてて検討をすすめた.フリーター志向についての調査結果からは,結果期待と肯定的態度の間に有意な結び付きがみとめられたことから,フリーターというキャリアに付随するメリットやデメリットを正確なかたちで予測させるような働き掛けによって,若者のフリーターに対する考え方が変容し得ることが示唆された.後者のキャリア意識については,自分にしか出来ない何かを求め(適職信仰),好きなことを仕事にしたいと拘るが(やりたいこと志向),主体的に動こうとしない(受身)とうい今の若者に特徴的な3つの側面に着目し女子学生を対象に検討を加えた.結果として,適職信仰は就業動機に対して正の,受身は負の関連性を示していた.また,適職信仰が高い者は低い者よりも,受身の傾向が低い者は高い者よりも自己探索を頻繁に行っていることが示された.これらのことから,こうした若者のキャリア意識は,即座に否定するべきではなく,これらの意識と現実社会の刷り合わせをするような方向づけが重要であることが示唆された.これらの研究成果を国内外の学会にて発表するとともに論文として公刊した。
