本研究は近年のライフスタイルの多様化や離婚率の増加によって急激に増加してきたシングルペアレントに着目し、この層の住環境問題を指摘し、今後の居住支援の展開策を提案としようとするものである。このために行った調査の概要を以下にまとめる。(1)シングルペアレントの住環境に関する公的支援の現状と課題を明かとするために、全国の母子生活支援施設(旧称母子寮)291施設に対して郵送調査を行った。有効回収は192票である。(2)子育てに関する住環境問題として住宅周辺でのコミュニティの現状を把握することを目的として、子育て世帯へのアンケート調査(有効回収465票)を行った。(3)コミュニティ支援の方向を探るため災害復興事業での先進事例のコミュニティ形成についての調査(2事例)を行った。以上の調査より得られた結果として、(1)母子世帯の代表的な受け皿である母子生活支援施設は、全般的にみて老朽化が進み、改装などによる無理が生じている。また、6割もの施設が住宅として必要な機能が,整備されておらず、生活支援施設としての機能を果たすためには最低基準の見直しを含めた改善と新たな住宅支援が求められている。(2)少子化の影響によって住宅周辺に子どもの遊び相手がいない世帯が3割を超え、近所に親しい世帯がいない割合は6割を超えている。子育てを取り巻く住環境の問題として、近隣関係が希薄化していることが指摘された。(3)コミュニティ支援型住宅は高齢層では良好なコミュニティが形成されており、この形態に対しての子育て世帯の関心は高い。シングルペアレントへの居住支援は不十分であり、近年では子育て自体が地域から孤立しやすい傾向にある。今後のシングルペアレントへの居住支援も含めた子育て環境づくりのためには、近隣との交流が乏しい近隣関係の実態に目を向け、コミュニティ形成に配慮した住宅周辺での子育て環境づくりへの取り組みが求められているといえる。
