銀行による融資拒否や貸し剥がしが発生する中で、いかにして優良な中小企業に資金を提供するかは、わが国の将来を考えるうえできわめて重大な問題である。この際問題になるのは、多数の企業の倒産確率を効率的に推計し、それに見合った適正な金利を算出することである。企業の倒産を推計する際に、最も重要な役割を果たすのは財務データである。このため財務データを用いて、多数の中小企業の倒産確率を推計する様々な方法が提案されてきた。これらの中で、従来最も良く利用されてきたのは、ロジット関数のあてはめである。ここでは、倒産強度関数として線形関数が利用されるが、われわれは過年度の研究で、倒産強度関数を凸2次関数に拡張すれば推計精度を上げることができることを実証した。今年度は、約8000の企業を対象とした実験を行い、この半正定値モデルが線形モデルを数%上廻る精度で倒産推計を行うことができることを示した。なおこの際、大型の半正定値計画問題を効率的に解くことが必要となるため、切除平面法の抜本的改良を考案した。具体的には、無駄な制約式の除去、退化した変数の除去、超楕円面制約を擬似楕円面で近似する方法などである。
