Standardization of Psychosomatic Stress Response Scale for Elderly

A test called the Psychosomatic Stress Response Scale for the Elderly (PSRS) consisting of forty items was designed to assess fifteen somato/psycho/social characteristics in aged subjects. It was given to 396 subjects residing in rural and urban districts of Hokkaido, Morioka, Yamaguchi.The results showed that the construct validity of our PSRS was high ; a high level of PSRS scores were found among females, individuals in ill-health, living alone, having few social relations and daily activities and other negative indicators. These findings were verified as consistent using the x-square test.Multivariate analysis were carried out by Hayashi's method II to confirm the concurrent validity of our PSRS.It was found category weights of some of forty one categories for the somato/psychi/social background were reasonable. Their high scores correlated with our PSRS,scores at a 0.621. Higher category weights were observed for those items concerned with health, spouse and children, economical conditions, social relations, daily activities and others.The above results seem to testify the validity of our PSRS.
