项目摘要

一年・二年という年を数える行為は、人間だけに許された高度の知的行為であると同時に、極めて政治的・社会的・文化的行為でもある。本研究は、この人類の時間意識・過去認識を、「時間の視覚化されたものとしての歴史年表」の分析を通して検討した。研究実績の概要は、以下の3点である。(1)現在の日本で広く使われている歴史年表のスタイルは、中国において司馬遷に始まる年表と、15世紀以降になって初めて誕生する西洋の年表という二つの系統の上に、出来上がったものである。(2)人間が、現在のように、過去を遡時-系統的に認識できるようになったのは、西洋では15世紀以降であり、それは歴史年表の発明のおかげである。本研究での最大の成果は、この年表の発達は、歴史教育と密接な関係を持っていることを解明したことである。特に、ヨーロッパにおける歴史年表の発達は、歴史教育の変容と共にはじまり、その背景には、歴史研究そのものの変化・人々の過去に対する態度の変化があった。(3)尚、本研究では、上記の問題に加えて、歴史年表で使用される年を表記する方法についての比較研究、区切られた時間の誕生とその認識論的意義、通年紀年法と断代紀年法による年の表記の並存的関係と歴史認識行為との関係、年代記に代わり年表が誕生してくる経緯と両者の本質的な相違について、という4つの問題についても考察した。
