Priority Rating in Improvement of Links in Urban Road Networks

Recently many people have moved to the Kanto Area in Japan. This migration has raised serious problems, for example, inflated rise in land prices, overpopulation and related congestion problems in and around Tokyo. The development of the transportation network can be considered one of the reasons for migration as well as for regional difference in income.In this study a model to explain the causes and mechanisms of domestic migration is developed. The model is used to analyze migration flow based on the difference in utility and degree of regional interaction. In the derivation of the model, regional utility explained by income, land price and interchangeable population are assumed and treated as exogenous variables. As a result, we have developed a migration model to explain these patterns or trends within Japan. The travel time between regions which has been reduced by the development of transportation networks affects the interchangeable population included in the utility function and the degree of relationship between regions. By using the migration model, we can analyze just how much the development of this network may influence migration flow and propose means to control this flow.
