本研究では、国連平和維持活動で実際にどのような業務が実施されているのか、定量的なデータを用いて測定し、平和維持活動の実態についてその全貌をミクロ的な視点で明らかにすることを目的とする。より具体的には、平和維持活動の詳細な業務データを各ミッションの業務報告書から体系的に収集する。そのデータを用いて詳細な業務内容について記述するとともに、どのような状況下で予定通りの業務実施が遂行されないのか検証する。以上を通じて、平和維持活動が平和に寄与するとの学術的見解について理論メカニズムの観点から追究する。補助事業期間1年目は実績報告書からのデータ収集を計画していたが、当該文書の性質上、データを収集し分析可能な形に整形するのに時間がかかっている。2年目は、特定のミッション（または国）に対象を絞り、少なくともそれらに関するデータセット構築を完了することで、業務内容の記述および分析について進めたい。また、収集したデータの紹介とその記述を内容とする論文を執筆し、学会等で報告することを計画している。1年目の具体的な研究実績として、英文査読学術誌Japanese Journal of Political Scienceにて論文が公開されたことが挙げられる。当該論文では、国連平和維持活動に従事する文民隊員が内戦関連死者数を減少させるのか、その効果を検証した。その際、独自に構築した国連平和活動に関する3つのデータセット、すなわち基本情報データセット（BAPO）、財政データセット（PKOF）、および人員データセット（PKOP）を用いて分析を実施した。そのうち、財政データセットについては上述した実績報告書からデータを収集しており、本補助事業で使用する予定のデータを改めて確認することができた。
