1.音楽演奏やスピーチにおける“間"の長さを測定した。用いた刺激はシューベルト作曲「君こそわが憩い」,コダーイ作曲「ハーリ・ヤーノシュ」,NHKアナウンサーによるスピーチ,桂三木助による落語「道具屋」の4種類である。“間"の時間測定には本研究費による購入備品Macintosh Quadra950と同購入ソフトSound Tools IIを用いた。2.上記の刺激における“間"の心理的効果を調べるために,原音通りのもの(A条件)と“間"の部分を除去あるいは短縮したもの(B条件)とで聴取者に与える印象がどう異なるかを測定した。これらの刺激作成にも前記の購入品を用い,A条件とB条件をそれぞれ異なる被験者群に呈示し,聴取の印象を35尺度で評定させた。実験結果は次の通りであった。(a)聴取者は“間"の長短に敏感に反応し,われわれの“間"の感性の鋭さを示唆した。(b)“間"は刺激の持ち味をよりはっきりさせる効果のあることがわかった。3.“間"と呼吸の関係を調べるために演奏時ならびに聴取時の呼吸を測定した。その結果、演奏者の呼吸が″間″と密接な関係にあることがわかった。一方,聴取者の呼吸も“間"に同期する傾向がみられた。このように“間"の感性の根底に呼吸の存在があることが示唆され,コミュニケーションの送り手と受け手のあいだで呼吸を介して相互作用・相乗作用が深まる過程を調べる手掛かりが得られた。4.“間"の個人差と精神テンポの関係を調べるために実験を行った。その結果,精神テンポの遅い者ほど長い“間"を好むと示唆を得たので,確認のため多数者のデータを蓄積中である。
