Dental pulp cells are undifferentiated and from stem/progenitor cells. Therefore, some kinds of signals, which are around some other cells and situation, occur differentiation. Because of this characterisity, it was difficult to take and culture pulp cells in stable condition. It was thought that primary cells were affected by sensitive condition of taking and culture. In case of rats, their incisors did not stop growing, character of pulp cells were different to some area of root. In spite of these reason, which is difficult to study about pulp cell, these pulp cells were stimulated by some cytokines. Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 from E.coli promoted calcification and alkaline phosphatase activity in pulp cells. In addition, expression of Osteonectin was similar level to control group. These results showed that there were no correlations between stimulation of calcification and multiplication of pulp cells. Multiplication was also stimulated by basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which affected to activities of fibroblast. We are planning to study whether vascularization of pulp cells were stimulated by bFGF or not.For pulp cells, there is every possibility of multi-function. Many basic studies leads maintain of oral health eccept for pulp ectomy.
