项目摘要

本年度の研究では、1)リスザルの音声コミュニケーションの機能を社会的な文脈の中で把握すること、2)ヒトを含む霊長類における音声コミュニケーションの進化を比較考察すること、の2点について調査を行った。1)については、静岡県の伊豆シャボテン公園で放飼されている約60頭からなるリスザル集団を対象に、個体識別に基づいて個体間交渉を記録しリスザルの社会構造の輪郭を明らかにすると共に、リスザルが発声する音声を記録し、音声レパートリーの分類と音響学的分析を行った。社会構造の分析からは、リスザル成体雌を中心とする社会を作り、その中でも4〜6頭程度の成体雌がサブグループを形成すること、「チャック」と呼ばれるコンタクトコールはサブグループの近接維持の機能があることが示唆された。音響学的分析からは、個体差の指標となりうるいくつかの音響パラメータを見いだした。2)のテーマについて、おもに文献研究を通じて調査を進めた。霊長類の認知能力の進化に関しては、1980年代以降、社会関係の複雑さと対応させて論じられることが多く、たとえば、Dunberは新皮質量と社会集団サイズの相関を指摘した。しかし、従来の研究では、毛づくろいのような接触的コミュニケーション行動のみが社会交渉の指標とされ、音声コミュニケーションと社会構造の複雑性、および脳の進化にどのような対応があるかは、いぜんとして未知であることがわかった。今後の研究では、種間比較が可能となるような音声行動に関する統一的な指標を用いて、音声コミュニケーションの進化の道筋を明らかにし、人の言語の起源を考察していきたい。
