平成7年度には継続研究の最初の年として、Helsinki Corpusを用いて各自が英語史の研究を行うことに加え、他のコンピュータ可読コーパスも広く収集し、それらの内容・問題点を紹介する事、コーパスから有効なデータを引き出す言語処理プログラムを開発し、次年度以降の研究の布石とする事を目指した。代表者渡辺秀樹はOEDのCD-ROM版についてのシンポジウムに参加し、雑誌論文においてその有効性と問題点を数度にわたり指摘、同志社大学ではその利用法についての講演を行い、本辞書コーパスの紹介に努めた。この成果をふまえ平成8年度には国際辞書学シンポジウムで発表する。分担者家入葉子は様々なコーパスから得られたデータをもとに、英語の否定辞に関する一連の論文を外国雑誌に発表し、その業績が国際的に高く評価され、英語史的言語学会の口頭発表を行った。Helsinki Corpusに関わる研究活動としては、分担者神谷昌明が英語コーパス研究会で古英語の接頭辞に関し新たな視点からの分析を行い、分担者大津智彦は接続詞に関する論考を学会誌『近代英語研究』に発表、協力者保坂道雄は中世英語英文学会における口頭発表で、迂言用法の動詞について従来の説の見直しを行った。また分担者塚本聡はHelsinki Corpusを処理し、検索や語彙表作成を瞬時に行う優れたプログラムを完成した。これは改訂ののち公開され、学会全体に貢献することになろう。参加者全員の分担執筆により、Helsinki Corpusを用いた研究論文を集めた学術書を、書評論文の形で発表紹介した。また平成8年度の英語コーパス研究会においてシンポジウム「Helsinki Corpusをめぐって」を企画し、司会・講師西村秀夫、講師保坂道雄、塚本聡、伊藤礼子、永尾智によって本年度の成果を広く発表する予定である。同学会会長斎藤俊雄と運営委員今井光規は顧問として本研究に参加している。以上、本年度には全員が活発に研究活動を行い、当初の目標を上回る成果を上げた。

The Helsinki Corpus is processed, and the search word list is created. All contributions of the Society shall be made public. All participants share the writing, Helsinki Corpus, research papers, academic books, book reviews, and presentations. In 2008, the "Helsinki Corpus" project was organized by the English Language Research Association, and the results of this year's research were announced by the directors, lecturers Hideo Nishimura, Michio Hosaka, Yukio Tsukamoto, Reiko Ito, and Tomo Nagao. Toshio Imai, President of the Alumni Association, participated in this research project as a consultant. All the above mentioned activities were carried out and the results achieved during the year were improved.
