项目摘要

美術館をはじめ様々な機関で各種の画像データベースが構築され,また検索システムが開発されている。それらのデータベースや検索システムは,それぞれの個別のニーズを満たすために作られている。美術研究者と一般利用者の間には,絵画に対する様々な種類,レベルの探索要求が存在すると考えられるが,これらのいずれの要求にも応じることのできる汎用的な絵画のデータベースと索引法を研究することを目的としている。画像に索引語を与える際には,まず(1)画像に付与される索引語数,(2)画像に付与される索引語の共通性,(3)仮の枠組みを与えた場合の効果が問題となる。そこで,85点の画像を準備し,個々の画像に対する索引語付与実験を行った。被験者は,平均して2語から6語の索引語を付与しており,共通性はかなり高く,枠組みの設定は効果があることが明らかになった。索引語数を増やし,付与される索引語の種類を減らし,共通性,一致度を高めるには,索引の手順の中に一定の枠組みを設定することが必要になる。次に,枠組み設定のために,被験者による索引語付与のプロセスを分析し,画像の認知において,(1)メディアの種類から個々の記述へ,(2)中心から周辺へ,(3)中心から背景へ,(4)全体から細部へ,(5)人間への強い関心,(6)時間的,空間的要素の記述などの共通の傾向がみられた。一方,西洋絵画の絵画データベースを作成し,作品名,作者名,年代,所蔵館などのほか,個々のの画像に,画像解釈に三つの段階があるとするパノフスキーに基づく二つの索引法と美術シソ-ラスAATを用いた索引法で索引語を付与し,検索実験を行った。その結果,記述の深さをパノフスキーの第一段階から第二段階のレベルとし,対象,特徴,関係の組で捉える方法がよい結果を得た。
