本研究は，多文化社会へ向けて地域コミュニティが外国人をどのように受け入れ，支援していけばよいのかという問いに対するコミュニティアプローチとして，これまで多くの研究において共同体的意識から一様に捉えられてきた地域コミュニティをその構造や性質から分類し，その分類ごとの異文化受容の在り方を検討することを目的としている。2020年度においては，予備調査として，大学生を対象にコロナ不安と外国人への感情の関連性を検討するためのWebアンケート調査を実施した。コロナ不安自体は外国人への感情にネガティブに関連するものではなかったが，経済的不安が高いほど外国人への感情にネガティブな関連性を示し，規範信奉性が高いほど外国人への感情にネガティブな関連性を示していた。そして，コロナ不安が経済的不安と規範信奉性と関連を示していたことから，直接効果ではなく間接的にコロナ不安が外国人への感情にネガティブに関連していると考えられる。2021年度では，予備調査の結果を踏まえ，インターネット調査を予定し，その準備を進めていたが，コロナ感染に基づく剰余変数が生じ，再度，調査予定地域を再検討する必要が生じ調査の実施を延長することとした。2022年度においてもコロナ感染に関わる状況に変化がなく，調査目的に対する剰余変数が生じる社会的情勢が続くことになった。2022年度後半においては，コロナ感染状況への慣れと外国人の受け入れが緩和され，2023年度の5月からのコロナ感染対策の大きな変更が決定されることになり，それらを待ってからの調査の実施を意図し，再度の研究延長を申請する運びとなった。
