本研究の目的は内発的動機づけの発達過程を実証的、理論的に検討することであった。また、それらの検討を通して、内発的動機づけの発達モデルを提出することが目指された。まず、理論的には、学習動機の3つの質について論じた先行研究(鹿毛、1995)をもとに、具体的な学習意欲の統合・発達過程を理論化し、その中に内発的動づけの発達を位置づけた。すなわち、学習意欲の3つの質とは、学習の内容との関連によって生じる内容必然的学習意欲(内発的動機づけなど)、条件との関連で生じる条件必然的学習意欲(外発的動機づけなど)、自己との関連で生じる自己必然的学習意欲(performance goalなど)の3つである。これらの学習意欲はある学習対象に対して統合的な構造を形成していると同時に、その構造は学習の進行を促進する過程で発達するとされた。この理論的検討の結果を作業仮説として位置づけ、実証的研究として、構造化された自由記述法によってパーソナル・ドキュメントを収集し質的な分析を行った。すなわち、大学生約400名に5点の内容(学習意欲を持つ対象、学習意欲の発達過程とそれに影響を及ぼした要因など)を必ず記述するように指示する形でレポートを提出してもらい、その内容について、学習意欲の統合・発達過程の作業仮説にしたがって分析を行った。その結果、学習意欲の構造的発達は学習意欲の3つの質の統合過程だることがほぼ示され、作業仮説が実証されるとともに、学習動機に下位動機を設定する必要性も認められた。また、動機間には特定の関連が見出され、学習意欲の構造的、統合的発達に影響を及ぼす関連とそうでないものが区別できる可能性が示唆された。

The results of the theoretical study are discussed in detail, and the results of the empirical study are analyzed in detail. About 400 college students participated in the five-point content (learning intention, object, influence and main cause of learning intention development process), which must be described in the form of instruction, proposal, content, operation and analysis of learning intention development process.
