项目摘要

本研究の申請時に出版されたS.Collini,D.Winch,J.Burrow,That Noble Science of Politics.は、富の科学として経済学ではなく、政治学を措定し、その意味での政治学がスミスの弟子D.スチュアート以降20世紀まで継承,展開されることを解明した。この書物の仕事は、本研究が意図した18世紀研究と19世紀研究とを連絡しつつ19世紀における経済学の展開を確定しようとする問題視角と部分的に重なるものであって、イギリス19世紀社会科学の性格と特徴を明らかにする上で貴重なものと言える。本研究は、政治学とは対比的に経済学は、D.ヒュームとA.スミスの道徳哲学体系の中の、非歴史学的側面を基礎に成長したことを主張する。政治学はD.スチュアートによりスコットランド啓蒙思想の歴史意識を継承し、それはやがてマコーリの歴史学を産出し、バジョツトの歴史的政治体制認識を準備するのに対して、経済学は、その動学的資本蓄積論にもかかわらず、19世紀には歴史意識を欠如した体系として整備,発展させられる。その思想的基礎となるのは、歴史学的方法を内在させた自然法思想ではなく、それと袂別した功利主義思想であって、これこそは、ヒュームにより育くまれベンサムにより一つの体系に高められた新しい哲学であった。しかし、この功利主義は、全くスチュアート歴史学と無縁ではなく、本研究がこのほど新たに確認し得たところでは、環境による人間形成という視点と認識において両者は共通していた。それを解明したのが、永井の「環境形成論の形成環境」(『ロバアト・オウエンと協同組合運動』,家の光協会)であって、まさにリカードゥ経済学の基底にあったものである。歴史的,保守的な政治学(および歴史学)と非歴史的,改革的な経済学(および哲学)とが重層的に19世紀イギリス社会科学を形成していたことを、本研究は、結論として、また本年の成果として、逑べるものである。
