職業的社会化については、従来多くの研究がなされてきているが、大学卒業者についてのとくにその職場への初期適応については、殆ど研究されることがなかった。そこで、その初期適応の実態を解明することを本研究の基本的目的とした。方法は、質問紙調査法および面接聞き取り調査法である。対象者はいずれも、新潟大学人文学部行動科学課程の卒業者てある。質問紙法調査は郵送法によった。配布数は166で、転居等で配布不能のもの12、回収数は93であった。実質配布数に対する有効回収率は60%である。質問紙の郵送時に面接聞き取り調査への協力を要請し、承諾のあった者58人について、聞き取り調査を実施した。調査結果について2・3摘記すると(1)選職段階については、本人の意志で決定したという者が圧倒的に多数を占めているが、内実は、出身地へ帰るかどうか-つまり親の意向-を考慮し、それから自分の性に合った職種や休みの多い職業が選択されることになる。自分自身で選職するというのは、こうした限界の中において初めて可能になるのである。(2)専門的知識や熟練・経験をるいは創意・工夫を必要とするというイメ-ジを就いた職業についてもっているが、経験年数が短いためか、それらがまだ不足しているとする者の方が多く、それを補うためには、自分で勉強するか現場で経験を積むしかないとする。やらなくてはならないと考え、実行でき不足を補っていけるところが高卒者と違うと強く意識している傾向が見られた。(3)転職希望者は在学中に勉学もサ-クル活動も熱心でなくアルバイトもしなかった者や選職も安易だったために不満が多かった者と、身につけた技術・知識をより活用するという積極型のものとが存在する。(4)大学で学んだことで役立っていることとしては、知識や技術ではなくて、遊びやアルバイトを通して適応力に幅がついたことを挙げる者が多く見られた。
