深部腫瘍の温熱治療成績向上を目的として以下の研究を行った。1.温熱治療中の生体組織内温度を体表冷却用ボ-ラスの上から無侵襲的に計測する方法を開発した。更に組織温度測定の分解を計算できる新しいデ-タ処理法を開発し実用化に近づいた(水品)。2.末梢循環の温熱効果に対する影響を解析する上で、従来、適切な実験系がなかった。そこでダイナミックファントムを用いた末梢循環のモデルを考察し、応用した結果、生体内のシミュレ-ションとして良好なモデルであることが判明した(中津川)。3.深部腫瘍に対して放射線、化学療法を組み合わせた温熱治療法の確立を目指した基礎的及び臨床的研究を行った。深在性腫瘍に対する温熱効果を肝癌・膵癌等の腹腔内腫瘍について臨床的に検討した。特に原発部位の違いにより腫瘍内温度分布や抗腫瘍効果に差が生じることが明かとなった。CTによる温熱計測の可能性を示した(柄川)。腫瘍に対して放射線を併用した温熱療法を行い、その効果をCTを用いて測定した結果、CT上の吸収率の解析の意義が示された。Ferromagnetic hyperthermia用RF誘導加温装置とimplantの開発を行った(阿部)。泌尿器領域腫瘍に対し温熱療法を放射線、化学療法併用にて施行し、抗腫瘍効果並びに除痛効果の点で有用性を示した(久住)。癌性腹膜炎に対するRF腹部広範加温の可能性について示した(前田)。食道癌および大腸癌に対して温熱、化学、放射線併用療法を施行して、その効果を臨床的、病理組織学的に検討した(井手、杉町)。固形腫瘍内に存在する低酸素細胞は一般に治療抵抗性を示すので、特に低酸素細胞をタ-ゲットとした温熱制癌剤併用療法を開発した(杉町)。
