Educational Technology, an immature branch in sciences and engineering, showed its development, involving, its strategy of gradual and heuristic identification of its objectives and methodology via continuous solution of various problems in education rather than not prescribing its general idea impetuously. Since then extensive applications of computer systems expanded research objectives and procedures, so that traditional paradigms are not effective in some fields at present. In this background, we recognize that it is very significant for us raising researchers in the forefront of this engineering study to review the research trends and to define the destination for research methodology perse.In view of procedure for this project, we planned a workshop to investigate problems principally through intensive discussion by all of co-workers gathering together.In the first year, we held two workshops, a voluntary symposium in The japan Society of Educational Technology and so on ; in rel … More ation to our achievements, we distributed an interim report "Thinking Research Methodologies in Educational Technology" as a critical material to approx. 200 researchers relating to educational technology. In the current year, we visualized some faculties of researchers required in educational technology and we proposed their training curricula in three research fields (research of instruction, development of application systems, and fundamental investigation)involving their specific methods. We submitted the interim report on the discussion to approx. 300 researchers.In this report, we identified the broad knowledge and points following ;(1) educational technology involves diverse methodologies, views and objectives.(2) issues related to R&D and practical researches.(3) problems between basic and applied researches.(4) practical proposals for problem-solving as well as for training courses and methods toward researches.In conclusion, our remarkable achievements contributes much to the academic advancement of educational technology in Japan.
