Many ordinary people would like to master cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but effective resuscitation training is currently limited since it must be delivered by a medical practitioner. Since instructors are scare it it desirable to develop an effective training aids. There is little research on equipment which can judge the accuracy of resuscitation skills.In this research, a skill acquaintance-oriented multimedia CAI system combining simulator has been developed : the basic interactive training technique is provided for each trainee through multimedia personal computer connected to patient simulator, RESIM.All the CPR techniques to be mastered are shown in a Hypertext where images, animations, audio signals and narrations are used to emphasize some important issues : maintaining airway, artificial breathing, rhythm of cardiac massage. During the practice, trainee's techniques are recorded and then pointed out by the instructor to improve his/her techniques. The present system can also give some advice to the trainess by voice messages. It is proved through a series of training at Junior College of Nursing, Tokyo Women's Medical College, that the CPR training may be done more effectively by using the present system than conventional tutoring.
