本研究グループは,日本建築学会東アジア集住文化研究会等の団体と協同して,公開研究集会を5度開き,それ以外に3度の全体研究打ち合わせ及び十数回のグループ別研究打ち合わせを開き,研究企画を行なった。この間,中国,韓国日本(琉球孤を含む)などのフィールドワークを通じた研究成果の理論的・実証的比較検討を行なった。これらの作業を通じて,「東アジアの集住空間構成における生活中心としての共同空間の研究」を行なう必要があるとの結論に達した。その研究細目として,(1)生活中心としての共同空間の構成要素(2)集住空間としての社会的構成と生活中心の関係(3)自然的空間構成と人工的空間構成の関係(4)生活中心と精神的中心,生産的中心の関係(5)日常・非日常の生活行為と共同空間の関係があげられる。この研究課題を行なうことにより,これまでの建築・地域・環境計画学の前提となっている近代計画学の前提とは大きく異なる現代計画の発展の論拠を得ることに資する論点,カステーナブル・ディベロップメントのアジア的展開の展望に接近しうると思われる。またこれらが適用されうる範囲について,東アジアモンスーン圏,水稲耕作圏,漢字文化圏,風水説またはこれに類する集落立地論をもつ地域第2の範囲の妥当性についての見きわめをも概観しうるものと思われる。
