英文摘要
Our project aimed at an application of the videos and laser discs with closed-captions to the English text book mainly for college students. During the stay in the US,some of our members have encountered with the closed caption system for the auditory handicapped people and non English speaking pepole, and knew that it can be easily taken into personal computers and be modified with word processors. We found that it has so great a potentiality to be applied to be used as foreign language text book for college students. For three years from the 1994 academic year, we developed the text books, tried them in our classes, observed the students'reactions, estimated the efficiencies, discussed what we found with cach oter, and improved them.Generally, closed caption text books roused a gerat motivation to the language training in our classes, chiefly because of the students'interest in the contents which is real, up-to-date, and exciting ; American TV programs with commercials, for example. Yet, rapid speech, colloquial expressions, slung, jole, pun, peculiar accents, and dialects, etc. are the hindrances for the students to catch up with what is gong on in the texts.By the end of our project, we agreed that closed captions could be quite efficient materials for the language text book, provided that we cannot be too careful about the aptitude of the closed caption text, purpose of the training(reading, composition, aural communication, etc.), appropriate introductions and notes on the vocabulary and phrases, and background commentary. It may soon be possible to have basic texts from closed captions on internet, which is to be freely procedded by each langeuage teachers, if the tex thas no problem with copyright.
