For effective educational intervention, it is important to estimate changes in psychological and physiological status in handicapped children. The present study investigates an observation system using VTR and computer to analyze changes in child behavior in the short and/or long-term. The major findings are as follows.1.We attempted to analyze the target behavior by the behavioral observation system using VTR and computer. The subjects were two children with epilepsy. Results indicated the system is effective for estimating the ratio, frequency and pattern of target behavior in a defined time.2.We investigated the relationship between the status of target behavior in the defined time and the psychological and physiological situation at school time. The subjects were two children, one of them with epilepsy and the other was autistic child with epilepsy. Results suggested that the quantity and the pattern of the target behavior in the defined time relate to the psychological and physiological situation at school time.3.We investigated the status of behavior in one child with epilepsy in the long-term. Results indicated changes in child behavior after diagnosis and the start of medical treatment for epilepsy.4.We analyzed the time of the seizures in one child with epilepsy. Results indicated that seizures may increase in number during the times between classes.As mentioned above, it is clear that the observation system using VTR and computer is effective in estimating behavior in handicapped children with epilepsy.
