A study on Building Virtual Cities in terms of Spatial Cognition

这项研究涉及三维虚拟环境中的空间行为。首先，我们聚焦于开放空间，研究了开放空间的形状或位置对空间认知的影响。结果表明，人类大脑中的积累区对认知有很大的影响。其次，我们研究了在虚拟环境中搭建的迷宫中人类的行为。当地图具有位置、距离和方向信息时，它在引导人类方面非常有用。第三，构建了一个虚拟现实建模语言(VRML)世界，研究了人类对一些空间对象的操作行为。该系统完全可以用于城市规划。我们提出了这个VRML系统作为一个城市规划支持系统。

This study deals with spatial behavior in 3-dimensional virtual environments. First, we focused on open spaces and studied the effect of the shape or location of an open space on spatial cognition. In the result, It is clarified that the accumurative area in human mind is much effctive on the cognition. Second, we studied on human behavior in a maze built in a virtual environment. A map is much usefull to guide a humanbeing when it has the information of location, distance and direction. Third, we built a VRML (Vitual Reality Modeling Language) world and studied on human behavior operating some spatial objects. This system is enough to be used for city planning. We proposed this VRML system as a city planning supporting system.
