The use of implant materials capable of replacing the bones and joints of the human body is increasing. Recently, a method has been developed in which a porous material is inserted between the bones, and the new bone is grown in the pores of the material.This research used titanium (Ti) that is considered inactive to organisms, and created an implant material by sintering the Ti material utilizing a spark plasma sintering (SPS) method. As a result of examining the conditions for preparation of the implant material, the following conclusions were obtained.(1) By fixing Ti particles to a core Ti rod followed by sintering them using the SPS method, an implant material was successfully prepared.(2)Junction among Ti materials sufficiently proceeded depending on sintering conditions, and the material with targeted junction and structure such as sufficient shear strength and porosity was obtained.(3) As a result of sintering sole Ti particles for the purpose of miniaturizing the implant material, a small implant material 5 mm in diameter made of pure Ti particles was created.(4) The observation of its cross-sectional structure showed good junction rate, porosity, and neck size, which verified that the targeted porous implant material was successfully obtained.
