The study deals with constructing prototype of machining processor according to intelligence and information as an ideal figure for the future machine tools and establishing the fundamental technology for autonomous machining cell. The study is summarized as follow,(1) By making use of open CNC technology, a machining agent system was developed, where multi-function machining processor can autonomously perform 5-axis control machining operation as an input information of only 3-D CAD data transmitted through network. The system performs machining operation by autonomously judging the cutting condition and cutting method, based on the information of various database. Remote operations are available through network, holding production information distributing on network in common.(2) For concretization, a network application was developed, which can observe the machining state. The system allows the remote observation of running state of machine tools, the transmission of e-mails relating alarms and the data transmission from clients.(3) CAM module was developed, which automatically generates rough cutting and finishing CL and, their corresponding NC data and executes autonomous machining operations on the basis of transmitted CAD data, together with the expansion of 5-axis control machining function. The cutting experiments by the developed machining agent system show good results.(4) Virtual profiling machining function was expanded from 3-axis to 5-axis control.(5) By making use of the developed virtual profiling machining system, an intelligent machining condition monitor was devised to judge the cutting state, while comparing estimated cutting load with monitored one during machining.(6) To expand the machining processor function to miromachining, torsion-vibration micromachining system for glass was tried, and the cutting mechanism was investigated to enable the ductile mode cutting, which results in the necessity of multi-axis control.
