项目摘要
The present project aims at producing and analyzing Japanese sub-corpus of ICLE (International corpus of Learner English) data.ICLE was launched by Prof. Granger at Louvain University in Belgium in 1990. ICLE now contains over 200 thousand words of argumentative essays by advanced level university students from over 20 language backgrounds. In the fall of 2002, the first CD-ROM was published and in the near future a second one, which includes Japanese sub-corpus, will be published. At the same time, the native-speaker data collected under the same procedure is now available on the Web through our group. We have also completed an error-tagged ICLE Japanese sub-corpus.We also contributed the collection of LINDSEI (Louvain International Database of English Interlanguage) data, which contains advanced-level university students' English spoken data. France, Italy, Spain, China and Japan have already completed the aimed fifty samples. ESL and native speaker data are also available. The LINDSEI data is not yet accessible to the public. However, the Japanese sub-corpus has been made available on the Internet since the year 2003. We are now compiling personal profiles of the participants of the interviews for the LINDSEI Japanese sub-corpus.The number of researchers who are interested in learner corpus is rapidly growing. In responding to such demands, we would like to continue developing our project in the coming years. At the same time, utilizing the data we have, we would also like to develop English teaching materials to be used by Japanese university students.
