项目摘要

本研究の目的は単語の再認に関わる2つのメカニズム,familiarityとrecollectionの神経的なメカニズム,特にfamiliarityに関して焦点をあてて,時間分解能に優れる脳波,事象関連電位と空間分解能に優れる機能的磁気共鳴画像装置(fMRI)を指標として検討することである.前年度の成果としては,再認時の想起に関して想起の成功と刺激の反復を区別するための実験をfMRIを用いて検討した,結果として,想起の成功に関する活動が左前頭葉,左右の頭頂葉,前部帯状回などに見出され,単なる刺激の反復とは異なる神経メカニズムを明らかにした.今年度は高齢者と若年者の比較においてどのような差が見出されるかを検討した.結果,想起に関して高齢者では若年者と比較して前頭葉で強い活動が見られ,反対に後頭葉や海馬などでは若年者に比べて活動が減少していた.このことは後頭葉や海馬などで担われている処理が加齢によりうまく機能しなくなり,それを補うために前頭葉の機能が活発に働くようになったと考えられる.Recollectionに関する領域においてはは高齢者では前頭葉の活動が若年層より低下しており,効率的なrecollectionが行えなくなっている可能性が示唆された.加齢の脳活動への影響は必ずしも活動量の低下だけでなく特定の領域の活動の上昇も伴うことが明らかになり,脳がどのように老化していくのかに関して興味深い知見を提供することが出来た.
