経済性, 省エネルギーと環境調和性に対する社会的要請に合致した有機イオウ・リン化合物の遷移金属触媒合成法を開発した. ロジウムとパラジウム触媒を用いる新規な合成反応を多数見いだし, 有用物質の提供を可能とした。なかでも, 付加反応およびC-H置換反応を効率的に行って短工程化を実現した. また, 平衡反応が重要であることを示し, 周期表を活用する新反応開発の方法論を提示した.
